Human Heart Bottle with cap

Total Time: ~10 hours

Height: 19cm / 7.5in

Largest width: 12cm / 4.75in

Artist’s Note:

Finally back in my jam after life threw one curve-ball after the other, so a little warm-up project to get the juices flowing. I’ve got sketches of all kinds of organs, specialized cells, and biological and physiological functions of all sorts of things, be it animal or plant, or interstellar object’s orbits- but this was the manifestation of a desire I’ve had for a while.

The challenge I wanted to face was if I could make the aorta and vena cavas all keep the proper support for the dimension needed to really make them pop and I truly feel like I accomplished this. Its not anatomically correct, necessarily, but- hey- its art, not an actual human heart. Those belong in chest cavities.

Am I happy with the Wraith so far? No, not really. Will I beat this guy into submission with the might of my awesome sculpting skills? If I’m lucky… The front of its lower gown is really irking me, so lets see if I can iron out the issues.
…
Heh, iron… cloth… yeah it was funnier in my head.

Trundle from League of Legends

Total Time: ~24 hours

Base:

Foot-to-Foot: 11cm / 4.25in &  Hand-to-Foot: 8.5cm / 3.5in

Body:

Hand-to-Hair: 11cm / 4.25in & Nose-to-Heel: 10cm/ 4in

I purposefully did not take in-progress pictures of Trundle as he was crafted as a gift, but I assure you, he looked really really weird until his head was on. The Birthday Boy in question used to use Trundle quite a bit until his rework, and has since moved on, but remains in love with his original skin design and story so in three days I pushed this bad boy out. Unfortunately while he was baking his skin-less left hand decided to close too far and his club wouldn’t fit, so I have to re-craft it thinner before I can give it back to him, but its all about the learning curve!

Getting the skin right was easily my biggest challenge, and I still have some things I see I could have done differently, but considering the flaky grotesqueness of Trundle’s rotting skin I’m glad I got it as good as I did! I also tried to curb the ridiculousness of his hair by toning down the height and color, but still having plenty of dimension to it.

Ancient Golem from League of Legends

Total Time: 12 hours 40 minutes

Arm-to-Arm Width: 11cm / 4 1/2in

Height: 8.5cm / 3 1/4in

Artist’s Note:

I am officially in awe of rocks and their varying shapes, sizes and uniqueness even if they look identical. Honestly. All in all, though, I absolutely loved this little guy, and would love to do him all over again. The completeness of his design made it very satisfying to finish, but I still don’t like when I’m under fire from any of his cousins while trying to outrun the enemy…

My favorite part of making him was the shoulder piece; I crafted it flat and then laid it over the top, pinching it onto its proper place and adjusting the eye piece just so, which helped it maintain its ‘pauldron’ look in the shoulder.

There are in-progress shots further in my blog if you want to see just how he came along.

Abathur from Star Craft II

Part Three (Part One and Part Two)

After spending close to 50 hours on the sculpting itself, painting was a welcomed relief. Adding darker pigments in the texture, and lighter spots on the ridges I was able to make the whole thing pop with dimension.

Outside of the green polyps nothing else needed a glaze, and I prefer to leave my works un-sealed.

Abathur from Star Craft II

In Progress pt 2 (Part One Here)

Abathur’s actual back was a mental anguish- I had absolutely no reference pictures for it, so I used what I could glean from mere glimpses to construct a reasonably believable texture and shape.

Attaching limbs was a skill I hadn’t had much practice with before, but- wow- did I master it after this thing or what? Ten different limbs, five different sizes, and all presented their own challenges. The larger ones were actually the more difficult because of their ‘root’ need to the core, and I tried to sink them into the thicker base as much as possible. Lesson learned: Build the skeleton then sculpt around it.

I textured the limbs in depth before looking to secure them, and re-textured as I handled each, trying to avoid touching them as much as possible.

Abathur from Star Craft II

In Progess pt 1 (Part Two Link Later)

I didn’t think to start taking pictures of Abathur until he was spiraling into more complications than I initially had thought, so these start a bit late to the party… Sorry about that…

Essentially he’s a wire skeleton to help give him a solid ‘foot’ on which the foil is wrapped as a core around.  All his limbs are crafted in this fashion.

As you can see sketching out my projects is kind of my thing, as it keeps me proportionate to the whole project and helps me mentally keep ahead of myself. I derped his inner arms by winging it, and swore to never- ever- do that again.

Deku Link from Majoras Mask

Clay Time: 5h 45m

My speed challenge actually went very well! A slight dinner interruption, but  from start-to-finish I was impressed with my efficiency at tackling a never-before-done project. After a quick bake and some detail paint, Deku Link will be complete!

Quick detour from my regularly scheduled projects- today I am going to try to accomplish a self inflicted “Speed” challenge! We’ll see how quickly I can make Deku Link from Majoras Mask. Stay tuned for my results, hopefully up by night’s end!

Next project is already lined up: Alice: Madness Returns’ Executioner. I loved his design, hated going up against him. What’cha you gonna do? I’m going to have to go shopping to get the materials for this guy, I don’t work in the whites and reds so much as browns and blacks. Its going to be an adventure keeping that white clean, lemme tell you.
((Forgive the sketch quality, this guy is only there for size reference, not his good looks. I’d have to dig real deep to get those…))

Look at this gorgeous baby! Look at him! He’s so amazing! I’m so excited about him that I’m posting some sneak-peeks before his bake detail painting. That moss was so amazing to figure out, I squealed when I got it right.
